It has been a long time since human lives were openly sacrificed to appease the gods and to merit prosperity; when the "chief" went through the ranks of the lowly peasants to find a person of such a quality as to bring the most acceptable offering.

These days we when the Chief ( Financial Officer ) wants to appease the analysts and ensure prosperity for his clan, he sends his executives through the lower ranks of expendable workers and selects the one(s) most likely to provide an acceptable quarterly result.
